Why Peer Review Takes So Long — and How AI Changes That
The average peer reviewer spends 5–9 hours on a single manuscript review. You read the paper, evaluate methodology, check the literature, then write structured comments covering a dozen or more specific criteria — all while juggling your own research and teaching.
ProfAgent compresses that process. It reads the manuscript, understands what each reviewer question is asking, and generates a complete, structured review with a summary of the work, major scientific concerns, minor comments, and positive aspects. You review, edit, and submit. That's it.
How It Works
Import the Review Form
Install the Chrome extension. Visit the journal reviewer portal. ProfAgent automatically detects and imports all reviewer questions — ratings, dropdowns, text fields — from Springer, IEEE ScholarOne, Elsevier, and more.
Upload the Manuscript
Upload the PDF. ProfAgent extracts the full text and uses it to generate answers grounded in the actual content of the paper — not generic placeholder text.
Auto-Fill the Journal Form
Click "Auto-fill". The extension fills in ratings, dropdowns, and all text fields directly on the journal website. Review the answers, make any edits, and submit.
What the AI Review Includes
For every "Comments to Author" field, ProfAgent generates a structured academic review following standard peer review conventions:
- Summary of the work — 2–3 sentences on the paper's objective, methodology, and main findings
- Major concerns — numbered list of substantive scientific or methodological issues with specific references to sections, figures, and tables, plus suggestions for how to address each
- Minor comments — numbered list of writing clarity, figure quality, missing references, and terminology issues
- Positive aspects — genuine strengths and contribution to the field
ProfAgent uses Claude (Anthropic's AI) to generate reviews — the same model used by leading research institutions. Every answer cites specific sections and figures from your manuscript.
Supported Journal Platforms
ProfAgent's Chrome extension works across major journal submission systems:
Everything Else You Get
Automatic Question Detection
The extension reads the journal form and imports every question — rating scales, Yes/No radios, dropdowns, and text areas — without any manual setup.
Position-Based Form Filling
Ratings are filled by matching your answer to the correct position in the scale (e.g., "4 out of 5"), not by guessing internal form values.
Review History
Every review session is saved. Track which papers you reviewed, for which journal, and what recommendation you made.
Edit Before Submitting
All AI answers are editable in ProfAgent before you fill the form. Add your expertise, remove anything you disagree with, then auto-fill.
Your Next Review Is Due Soon
Stop spending a full day on every peer review. ProfAgent gets you to a first draft in under 10 minutes.

Is this detectable by journals?
ProfAgent is a drafting assistant — the same as using a word processor or spell-checker. You review and edit every answer before submitting. The final review is yours. We recommend disclosing AI assistance per your journal's policy, as you would any writing tool.
Does it work for any field?
Yes. ProfAgent works across all academic disciplines — engineering, medicine, computer science, social sciences, humanities, and more. The AI generates field-appropriate language based on the manuscript content.
What if the journal isn't supported yet?
The extension has a manual import mode where you can capture questions from any journal portal, even ones not yet specifically supported. New platforms are added regularly.
Is the manuscript content secure?
Manuscripts are processed transiently and never stored beyond your session. ProfAgent does not retain, train on, or share manuscript content.
