Type any research topic in the chat bar — ProfAgent automatically searches OpenAlex, finds the most relevant papers, and builds you a summary report with key findings and evidence patterns. Use the year filters and paper count to refine results.
While reading a paper on PubMed, arXiv, Nature, or any other site, click the ProfAgent extension icon and choose "Add to Research & Write". The paper lands in your FROM EXTENSION inbox in the Tools panel on the right. From there you can:
• 🔍 Find Related — instantly searches for similar papers and builds a report
• → Paper Q&A — opens the paper in Paper Q&A so you can ask detailed questions about its full content
• The chat AI is also aware of your inbox papers, so you can ask questions like "what is this paper about?" and get an answer based on the title and abstract.
Use the AI Tools panel on the right to generate specific sections: Write Introduction crafts an academic intro with citations, Literature Review generates a complete structured review section, Research Gaps identifies open questions, Key Takeaways extracts the most important findings as concise bullets, and Explore as a Table compares all papers side-by-side. After every search, a Next step nudge appears in chat pointing you to these buttons.
Click Upload draft to share a PDF, Word, or text file. ProfAgent reads it and can improve your writing, add citations from the papers it found, identify missing references, or suggest structural changes — all in the chat.
Connect a local folder via 📁 Folder in the tools panel. ProfAgent will read your existing papers and documents from the folder and use them as context in all your research chats. When you export a Word or PDF report, it is also automatically saved back to that folder.
After any AI response, Word and PDF buttons appear directly below it. Word files open in Microsoft Word with full formatting and a numbered reference list. PDF exports open in your browser for clean Ctrl+P → Save as PDF output. Use Combine sections in chat to merge everything into a single file.
Forward any review-invitation email to the address below. ProfAgent auto-extracts the title, journal, deadline, and abstract into a new entry.

Install from the Chrome Web Store in 10 seconds — then go to your journal portal and click the ProfAgent icon to auto-import:
🧩 Add to Chrome — FreeWorks on Chrome and Edge · Then go to your journal's review page and click the ProfAgent icon to auto-import the manuscript and review questions.
Where to navigate by journal:
• Springer: reviewer-feedback.springernature.com → open your review
• ScholarOne/IEEE: manuscriptcentral.com → Review tab → click manuscript
• Editorial Manager: editorialmanager.com → Submissions to Review
• PeerJ: go to your review link → click Review Materials tab first
• MDPI/Frontiers/PLOS: follow the link in your invitation email
1. Go to the manuscript/materials page and click the extension again.
2. Go to the review form/submit page and click the extension again.
If the extension still can't download the manuscript, download it manually and upload it in ProfAgent. Only PDF, DOCX, TXT, and ZIP files are imported — figures, LaTeX source files, and bibliography files are skipped automatically.
Click to reveal
Open the paper → optionally upload 📝 My Draft if you already have your own review comments → then click Analyze with ProfAgent.
✏️ Edit before submitting. Every section is editable — update anything, then ask ProfAgent in the chat to adjust further. ProfAgent never clicks Submit; you stay in control.
When you're happy with the review, go to the journal's submit page and click Auto-fill in the extension to fill the form — then review once more and submit yourself.
Use Internal Reviews when you are not a formally invited journal reviewer — for papers by your students, collaborator drafts, or manuscripts you want to evaluate privately. No extension or email forwarding needed.
Click + Add Paper, fill in the details, open the paper, and upload the PDF. ProfAgent extracts the full text so the AI can read it.
Open the paper → click Analyze with ProfAgent to generate a structured review: summary, major concerns, minor comments, and an overall recommendation. Share with the author or keep as internal notes.
You can upload files and run the analysis after saving.
1. Add your files. Use the Files card on the right to add your manuscript draft and the reviewer comments (or connect a folder so I can save updates straight back to it).
2. Pick an action. "Just Answer Comments" drafts a response to each reviewer point without touching your manuscript. "Answer + Revise My Documents" does that and also applies the suggested edits to your manuscript as tracked changes.
3. Chat for anything else. Ask follow-up questions, request specific edits, or tell me what to change — just like chatting with any AI assistant. Any file I generate shows up as a download button right in the chat.
4. Made your own edits? If you download a generated file and edit it yourself, upload it back through "Add file." For the manuscript, I'll ask if it should become the version I work from going forward. For a response letter (or any other document) you edited, just re-upload it and tell me in chat to review it — I'll read its actual content and continue from there.
5. Need to edit one specific comment? Once your reviewer comments have been parsed (this happens automatically the first time you use a quick action or ask in chat), a "Reviewer Comments & AI Responses" section appears below the chat — collapsed by default, but that's where you can rewrite any individual response by hand or mark a comment as resolved. Each comment there is color-coded — green means it was answered directly, amber means it needs your input, red means it needs substantial new work — and the same colors appear in the "Status" card on the right and on the exported response letter.
6. An amber/red comment stays that color even after you answer it — why? The color reflects what I decided when I first read the comments, not a live tracker. If a comment needs your input, drafting a response for it afterward won't change its color on its own. Check the "Resolved" checkbox on that comment once you're satisfied with it — that moves it into its own "Resolved" count in the Status card (separate from "Can answer," since resolving a yellow/red comment yourself isn't the same as one I could draft on my own) and updates the exported letter to match. If you don't check it, it stays the same color.
7. Not sure which download is current? Check the "Generated Files" list in the sidebar — it always reflects the latest version. If you edit a response or note by hand and save it, and a response letter already exists for this round, I automatically regenerate that letter with your edit, so the file there stays current without any extra step.
